Jan Philip Uitenbroek

Since graduating in June 2024, I have been working as a freelance journalist for Nederlands Dagblad, a newspaper with a Christian perspective. I develop my own story ideas, pitch them to the editorial team, and produce articles based on these concepts.

As part of my graduation project, I completed a short internship of several weeks at the news editorial team of RTV Oost, the regional radio and television broadcaster for Overijssel. During this period, I worked independently as an editor, contributing to the newsroom and producing several original stories.

During my internship at the online editorial team of EenVandaag, a prominent news and current affairs program in the Netherlands, I was responsible for writing original articles based on my own topics. Later, I also worked on adapting radio and TV content for our online platform. A highlight of my internship was creating my own radio-broadcasting on the use of AI in developing new medicines. EenVandaag reaches approximately 1.2 million people on radio and TV during weekdays. I successfully completed the internship with a grade of 7 out of 10.

As part of a journalism school assignment, I collaborated with three fellow students on a research project for 1Twente, a local broadcaster, focusing on energy poverty in the Wesselerbrink neighborhood in Enschede. Energy poverty describes the inability of households to afford high energy costs, a growing social and societal issue in the Netherlands. Our goal was to assess the severity of the situation in the neighborhood, explore its impact on residents, and identify potential solutions.
