projects

Functioning as a Systems Administrator at Botswana Ash (Pty) Ltd, I have led and supported various projects that contributed to improved efficiency, cost savings, production support, maintenance, and safety initiatives. I have successfully undertaken the following:

  • Designed, implemented, and commissioned a Microsoft Azure Stack HCI cluster

Designed and commissioned a 3-node Microsoft Azure Stack HCI cluster to replace legacy servers and SAN storage with a resilient, software-defined platform. Implemented failover clustering and Storage Spaces Direct for high availability and migrated critical services with minimal downtime to support 24/7 operations. Integrated with Microsoft Azure for monitoring, updates, and hybrid readiness, including backup and disaster recovery aligned to business continuity. This solution reduced infrastructure costs by 35–45%, avoided approximately P1.2–P1.8 million in SAN refresh costs over five years, and lowered power, cooling, rack space, and maintenance overheads.

  • Integrated Security Architecture with Fortinet Security Fabric, FortiSASE, and Darktrace SIEM

Delivered an integrated security project using Fortinet Security Fabric, FortiSASE, and Darktrace to unify protection across on-prem, remote, and cloud environments. Implemented zero-trust access, network segmentation between IT and OT, secure web access, and centralized logging with AI-driven threat detection and real-time monitoring. The solution enhanced visibility, reduced incident response times, and strengthened compliance for critical infrastructure. By consolidating multiple point solutions into a single architecture, the project avoided an estimated P800,000–P1.2 million in separate security tooling and operational costs over three years while significantly improving the organization’s cybersecurity posture.

  • Truck Arrival Registration & ERP-Integrated Order Generation System

Designed and implemented a truck arrival registration system to improve accountability, visibility, and speed of order processing at the truck stop. The solution captures each truck upon arrival, records key details (driver, vehicle, load type, time-in), and automatically generates an order number in the main ERP and sales processing systems in real time. Built a lightweight front-end for rapid check-in and integrated it with backend APIs to synchronize data with the ERP, eliminating manual entries and delays. Implemented live dashboards to show the number of trucks on-site, queue status, and turnaround times for operations and sales teams. Added validation controls to prevent duplicate entries and ensure data accuracy.

Impact: Reduced order processing time, improved yard visibility, strengthened accountability, minimized manual errors, and enabled faster dispatch and customer service through instant order creation and real-time truck tracking.

  • COVID-19 Contact Tracing & Workforce Safety Web Application

Designed and deployed a web-based application to enable effective contact tracing and workforce protection during the COVID-19 pandemic. The system registered employees, contractors, and visitors at entry points, logged movement across work zones, and recorded close contacts using check-ins aligned to shift and location data. It included screening questionnaires, temperature logging, and incident reporting to identify potential risks early.Developed real-time dashboards for management and medical teams to monitor exposures, track isolation cases, and generate compliance reports. Automated alerts enabled rapid response and targeted isolation while minimizing operational disruption. Implemented role-based access and secure data handling to protect personal information. Impact: Delivered accurate, timely contact tracing, supported informed decision-making, maintained operational continuity, and contributed to a safe work environment with zero on-site COVID-19 fatalities during the period.

  • Integrated IT/OT Network Infrastructure Upgrade & Segmentation (≈ P8 Million)

Led a full redesign and upgrade of the organization’s network across IT and OT environments to improve performance, security, and reliability. Re-architected core, distribution, and access layers; redesigned IP addressing and subnetting; and implemented resilient routing, switching, and wireless coverage across operational areas. Introduced structured network segmentation between corporate IT and industrial OT using industrial firewalls and zone/conduit principles to protect SCADA/plant systems while enabling controlled data exchange. Deployed Network Access Control (802.1X) for wired and wireless authentication, enforced role-based VLANs, and hardened switch configurations and access policies. Standardized configurations, improved monitoring/visibility, and documented the architecture for supportability. Executed the migration in phases to avoid operational downtime and validated performance with post-implementation testing. Project value: ~P8,000,000 covering hardware refresh, security appliances, licenses, cabling, and professional services. Impact: Stronger IT/OT security posture, improved throughput and uptime, simplified management, reduced broadcast domains, and a scalable foundation for future industrial and enterprise systems.
